Have I mentioned lately how mainstream media, both nationally and locally in Phoenix, Arizona, from my view, are some of the slimiest, most ethically challenged, egomaniacs I've ever run across? Well, to be fair, I'm referencing their coverage of all things Jodi Arias. I didn't follow most of these folks prior to this trial. I wonder, is it this trial that's brought out the worst in so many? Or is it that all things Jodi Arias has touched on so very much, including our own "issues", and that invariably there must be catharsis?
Anyway, reporter Troy Hayden is the head of the pack, a real punk, again from my view. Now Troy is a hard-working, recognized reporter on the scene. I'm sure he's reported hundreds of quality, journalistically ethical stories. I haven't taken the time to research or read much of his work, so my rant here is going by what I've witnessed since researching and writing on all things Jodi Arias for the past almost two years.
Troy cozied up to Jodi early on and gained her trust from inside Sheriff Joe's dungeon. She even granted him an after verdict interview, as she had promised. Troy then did what a tenacious, career-oriented, ego-driven reporter does. He got greedy. He betrayed Jodi on a few counts in pursuit of the "get". I have many of the details packed away in my files somewhere. Troy and I have had a few exchanges that were more than a little revealing as he figured out I was in touch with Jodi and he tried to work that angle. I'll admit social media journalism, tweeting, etc. is new and shaky ground, fraught with room for error. It's like walking through a mind field at times. Twitter reaches out to our impulses, our desire to pop out some burning truth, or a barb, or an immediate reaction to whatever is put in front of us. Troy tried to ambush Jodi's twitter tweeter once way back. I jumped on and perhaps thwarted some mistweets from said twitter tweeter. I did this and I write a lot of what I write for reasons I've listed here and there. One of the bottom lines is that I am sick and disgusted at how low reporters and others will go to exploit and twist this tragedy for their own agendas and goals and mental satisfaction. I'm especially incensed at the pass the State of Arizona and prosecutor Juan Martinez have received so far at their increasingly egregious misconduct, etc. etc. I don't think verdicts that are rendered under such conditions are fair or reflect justice. The ends, I don't believe, justify the means as it sets an incredible precedent with no bottom in sight.
Anyway, here's one of my bigger points. Troy Hayden, and for that matter, every reporter in Phoenix, except for one that will remain unnamed here, has avoided even glancing at the underbelly of the giant snake of corruption, collusion, and calamity that is starting to unsliver in Maricopa Superior Court. I'm stoked wondering how all the "justice for Travis" reporters are going to handle the more inconvenient truths poised to come out soon. Troy likes to speak of not reporting a story until there is confirmation, which as we all know, "confirmation", is up for interpretation. To that, I call malarkey, which I believe is one step up from shenanigans. Whatever. Any of the tiniest bit of gossip with the chance of casting a shadow on anything Jodi Arias is immediately made into a headline story. Think back on Troy Hayden's coup de grace......his interview of Casandra Collins, the cell mate of Jodi Arias for 37 days, who has been judged criminally incompetent. And who filed a restraining order against Barack Obama. Troy jumped on what was at first glance one of the juiciest, potentially damaging tidibits on Jodi Arias ever. Didn't quite turn out to be so juicy after all was brought out about Ms. Collins. But I digress.
Seems Troy Hayden and trial observer/blogger, Mikal Dillon had an encounter outside the courtroom recently concerning who might have been the "secret witness" in the trial lately. Mikal posted what happened from her view. Then Troy, obviously feeling besmirched, decided to slum it and respond to Mikal's facebook post accusing him of a few, well, missteps, mistakes, or just overall bad, immature, inappropriate, selfish behavior. I just thought this was such a perfect illustration of the bigger picture that I decided to post it here. By the way, I have nothing personal against Troy Hayden, though I suppose we are both people. I wouldn't accept a cup of coffee from Hayden, nor do I suspect he would offer it. That's life. I'm not and never have been good at pretension.
I don't know or have any issue whatsoever with Mikal Dillon. I may have snarked at her before once or twice on twitter, but I don't recall. She's a huge Juan Martinez fan. I am not. I admire Mikal's efforts to start doing her own live blogging. That's not easy. I wouldn't attempt it personally if I had the chance. Oh, I don't know, maybe I would? Regardless, I don't plan to set foot in Phoenix, Arizona anytime soon!
Okay, finally, for what it's worth:

But Troy Hayden after that posted it on his own tweet that he knew who the secret witness was wow take credit for what I told him. He wanted to be the first with the News he IS a reporter but I was the very first one a friend of mine saw her on the stand and came to me and told me that it was Jodi Arias I went up to tell Troy after I put it on this sight he told me to take it down which I did. And that's okay but the thing is after that two days later he came up outside the court room in front of a bunch of people and told me that he never told me to take it off my blog yes !!!!!he did !!!!!and I would not say that here if it wasn't the truth. So yes Jodi Arias was the secret witness can't wait to see the transcript . All I can say now is I cannot watch the new station and see Mr. Hayden now without thinking you know that man doesn't speak the truth he was the one that did the Jodi Arias interview on TV

Troy Hayden. No, he's not a firefighter, but his twitter backdrop portrays him as one on the scene of a raging fire. |

Mikal- I don't often respond in a forum like this, but I feel like I need to answer an earlier post of yours. When you first told me your friend saw Jodi on the stand and you reported it on your blog, I asked you "You reported that with one source who peeked through the door? I wouldn't report that on one shaky source." I never said you could lose "blogging privileges" if you reported it. Nobody grants "blogging privileges," anybody can blog anything they want at any time. I then went on my own and got three independent sources who confirmed the story. Your friend was the tip that got the process started. Thank you for telling me about what she saw. But the work of a professional journalist is then to get a story like that confirmed before you stake the reputation of your news organization on it. I never claimed I was the first to report Jodi was on the stand. Look at the tweets. I respect your rights to blog, and I'm not calling you a liar, but obviously there was some sort of miscommunication here.
Mikal Ann Dillon Live Blog Jodi Arias penalty phaseI take great offense to you going on the site and trying to clear up your name you should never have to do that I have two witnesses as to what happened I even went back to them and ask them was I correct or not because I did not want to accuse you of something you didn't do they told me I was absolutely right. Then you stay in this message to me above that my friend. PEEKED IN THE DOOR AGAIN THAT IS NOT A TRUE STATEMENT I DON'T UNDERSTAND YOU SAYING THAT I TOLD YOU MY GIRLFRIEND SAW WHEN THE DOOR WAS OPEN BY ACCIDENT WHO WAS ON THE STAND THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ACCIDENTALLY SEEING SOMETHING AND PEEKING SO NOW EXPLAIN THAT ONE

You shouldn't have been bullied whether you were first second or third who knew the information. It's your blog. He had no right. You were trying to be gracious in listening to his twaddle at all.
"Twaddle"? Ha! I might steal that.
